Sedation Dentistry

16th June 2016 by

At Buchan Braes Dental Clinic we appreciate that some patients are anxious about attending the dentist.

If you require some extra help during your treatment, we can offer you a variety of methods to reduce anxiety:

ORAL SEDATION

This technique involves prescription of a medicine (Diazepam) that is taken the night before, the morning of, and one hour before your treatment. It allows you to arrive to your appointment feeling a little drowsy and relaxed. After the procedure you may not recall all of the finer details of the appointment. A chaperone is required to take you to and from your appointment.

INTRA-VENOUS SEDATION

This technique is best suited for invasive procedures, or for patients who are dental phobic. A small cannula is used to deliver the medication, and sedation levels can be varied. We can also use other medications with the sedation which can provide enhanced pain relief and reduce any post-operative swelling. A chaperone is required to take you to and from your appointment.

If you wish to consider one of the above techniques our dentists or our sedation nurses will be pleased to give you further information.
